Frequently Asked Questions

I have little-to-no experience with tools or crafting. Will I still be able to participate in a workshop?

Yes! Our workshops are designed to be fun and accessible for all skill levels. Our workshop leaders are happy to assist and provide more one-on-one guidance or let a more experienced guest play with the materials provided to experiment in a creative space. We have designed each workshop with you in mind and will work with you through any problem that may arise while you complete your project!

How messy can I expect to get at a workshop? What should I wear?

If your workshop includes sanding, prepare to get a little dusty! We provide aprons, safety glasses, and masks, but recommend closed-toed shoes and a tie for long hair for any of our woodworking projects. For our painting and pouring classes, we recommend wearing clothes you aren’t too worried about getting a little paint on. The aprons and gloves provided will help, but there is always a chance that your painting could be a little outside the lines!

My partner and I want to work on the same project. Do we purchase two tickets or is there an additional fee?

Tickets are per project to cover our material costs, not per person. There is no extra fee for working together on the same project!

My kids want to try out the Splatter Zone. How many tickets do I buy?

One ticket purchase reserves the Splatter Zone for your group and includes one canvas. You can purchase additional tickets to add more canvases. Your group could work together on a larger canvas, or everyone could make two! The only limit is on number of people in the Zone at a time (6 per painting session).

Something has come up and I cannot attend my workshop. What are my options?

We do not offer refunds for workshops, however, we do offer an opportunity to transfer to a different day, receive store credit towards a different workshop or item in our store, or receive select projects as a Take-and-Create Kit to work on at home! Shipping is available for continental US.

I am hoping to host a private event at Fisk Avenue. Do I book tickets for my entire group right away?

To book a private event, you only need to purchase one of the private event tickets as a nonrefundable deposit. This reserves the studio for your group for the allotted time. Our private events coordinator will then contact you to plan your project selection and event! You will not need a final head count until one week prior to your event to allow your guests time to RSVP.

Can we bring food or drinks into the space?

We do not provide food or beverages at this time. Both may be brought into the space for private events and set up in our private event space. Any non-alcoholic beverages may be brought into the studio and consumed during a workshop. We are currently working on providing beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks at our newly renovated bar space. Stay tuned for more information!

A guest could not attend my event last minute. What are my options?

Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds for workshops with last-minute cancellations. However, you are able to offer guests the opportunity to make multiples with the additional materials, bring the project or another similar project home as a Take-and-Create Kit, or receive store credit towards a later workshop or item in our store.

Can my gift card go towards a workshop?

Yes! Our gift cards are a great way to plan a future workshop when you are unsure of the date you wish to attend. Use your gift card code at check-out to apply the card to your workshop.

We finished our project with mineral oil in class. How do I care for my project following my workshop?

Our mineral oil projects have been finished to be food-safe! There are plenty of options for continued board care at home. Any food-safe oil or beeswax will help protect your board from humidity and additional moisture. Apply finish with a rag for the first several uses. Apply when colors fade after first applications. Wash with warm soapy water and pat dry as needed.

I painted or stained my project in a workshop. Do I need to do anything else for care at home?

We do not seal our projects in class to allow time for stain and paint to dry completely. Any water-based polyurethane, spray or brush on, is our recommended finish at home for a low fume option. Sealing your project at home will help it last longer and withstand any moisture or
warping over time.

I don’t have the space to seal or finish my project at home. Can you help?

You are able to book additional workshop time through our website! There are 1-hour workshop time slots that give you additional time with a workshop leader and access to our tools and materials. Please book at minimum 24-hours following your initial workshop to allow any stain, paint, or glue to fully dry before sanding or sealing. We can assist with refinishing or working on projects not made at Fisk Avenue, but it is up to our discretion if the project can be worked on with our tools and waiver must be signed to state we are not responsible for the
piece.

Can I have an item in your store delivered to my home?

We offer regional delivery on any of our custom furniture items. Delivery fee is dependent on distance and order size. Select Take-and-Create kits can be shipped nationally in the continental US, as well as custom laser engravings.

You mostly do woodworking. Can I get a table custom made with a metal base?

We partner with a wide variety of metal distributors to bring you as many options as possible for a metal base. View our gallery to see previous work, or bring in inspiration images and we will find our closest match!

How close can you color match my table to a stain sample or another sample piece I provide?

Our designers and finishers are ready to color match or provide insight into selecting a finish. Stain samples will match color tone and depth, but colors may differ from sample due to wide variety of wood grain. We can directly match any paint colors provided.

Are your chairs made in-house?

We currently do not have a CNC capable of creating our chairs, so they are ordered in bare wood from Whitewood Furniture, based out of North Carolina. We then color match and finish the chairs to your style and selection in-store. Upholstery is done in-house at additional charge.

What materials do you use to make my table?

We use all local Wisconsin hardwoods to complete our tables. Wood is sourced from a variety of mills around the Southeastern Wisconsin area to best match your vision. Stain and seal is sourced locally from General Finishes, based out of East Troy, Wisconsin.

What payment is required upfront to make a furniture purchase?

When you order, you pay half up-front as a non-refundable deposit to cover materials. The remainder is due upon completion of the project. We have financing options available in-store

How long can I expect my table to take after I make my initial payment?

Projects are built custom and to order, so completion times vary and are dependent on project scope, material delivery to the store, and the number of orders currently awaiting completion. Our average wait time is 6-8 weeks.
