Fisk Avenue
Girl Scout Badges: Juniors
Girl Scout Badges: Juniors
Welcome to our Junior Girl Scout Badge Workshops at Fisk Avenue DIY Experience in downtown Waukesha! We have options for all age groups and several different badges. For this workshop option, we offer a either Junior's Maker's badge in Art and Design or Craft and Tinkering. By booking and making a deposit, you reserve the space for your troop. We will then send a link with tickets to allow you time to get a final headcount for your project.
Our first option is our Junior Level Maker's badge classes! For our Art and Design project option, we will feature an Epoxy Resin painting class. We will paint with acrylics on either a 6"x6" wooden board or a pre-made epoxy background (make selection with ticket purchase). After painting, we will set up our pieces to prepare them for an epoxy flood coat . We will discuss preservation methods of art, making a plan before painting and knowing when to adapt, finishing techniques, and the avenues in which you can sell your art. Pick-up for these projects will be available within 5 business days to allow epoxy time to cure.
For Junior Level Craft and Tinkering, we will create a set of wooden coasters. We will discuss different types of wood and what to use them for, work on designing a pattern, and learning the basics of a glue-up. During the glue up time, we will discuss the tools used to finish our projects, including the planar, miter saw, and orbital sander. We will also discuss different grits of sandpaper and when to use them. We will then sand down our projects and add mineral oil, and discuss different methods of sealing wood projects. Participants will leave with 3 wooden coasters by the end of the workshop.
