Girl Scout Badges: Juniors

Welcome to our Junior Girl Scout Badge Workshops at Fisk Avenue DIY Studio in downtown Waukesha! For this private workshop, we offer a Junior's Maker's Badge in either Art and Design or Craft and Tinkering. By booking and making a deposit, you reserve the space for your troop, then we'll send a link with tickets to allow you time to get a final headcount for your project. 

Junior Art and Design Badge

For our Art and Design project option, experience an acrylic painting class on either a 6" x 6" wooden board or a pre-made epoxy background. After painting, we'll set up our pieces to prepare them for an epoxy flood coat. We'll discuss preservation methods of art, making a plan before painting and knowing when to adapt, finishing techniques, and the avenues in which you can sell your art. Schedule a pickup for these projects for 1 or 2 weeks after the workwhop, depending on the medium, to allow projects to dry.

Junior Craft and Tinkering Badge

For your Craft and Tinkering project, learn to create a set of wooden coasters. We'll discuss different types of wood and what to use them for, work on designing a pattern, and learn the basics of a glue-up. During the glue-up time, we'll explore the tools used to finish our projects, including the planar, miter saw, and orbital sander. We'll also go over different grits of sandpaper and when to use them then sand down our projects. To finish, we'll add mineral oil and discuss different methods of sealing wood projects. Participants will leave with 3 wooden coasters by the end of the workshop.

Liability waiver must be signed before beginning any work with tools. Individuals under 18 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. We do not offer refunds for workshops, but do offer a one-time transfer to a different date if you were unable to attend.
